Our Riding Club sponsors three levels of rodeo royalty each year: Rodeo Queen (ages 13-19), Rodeo Princess (ages 6-12), and Buckaroo/Buckarette (ages 5-6). These royalty are chosen each year at our annual July 4th rodeo and represent the Riding Club at events like local parades and festivals during the rest of the year.


Contestants in the Queen and Princess contests will compete in categories like horsemanship, an interview, and Ticket Sales. See below for rules and forms!

Queen and Princess Contest Rules

2023 WRC OFFICIAL PAGEANT RULES


ELIGIBILITY

1. Queen must be ages 13-19 and Princess Contestants must be ages 6-12 years as of July 1st, 2023.

2. Contestant must be a permanent resident (residence of at least six (6) months) of Texas or Oklahoma and live within a fifty (50) mile radius of Whitesboro, Texas.

3. Contestant must agree to abide by contest rules with the possibility of disqualification for infractions.

4. Contestants must not be a current title holder of another Rodeo Royalty title at the date of Crowning. If contestant is crowned as Queen and holds or attains another title, she must give up one or the other. If she chooses to give up the WRC title, the 1st runner up will be named Queen.

7. Contestant must attend all scheduled contest events.

8. When a Contestant becomes Queen/ Princess she must be available to fulfill all the required duties of her reign, including being available for representing the Whitesboro Riding Club and Whitesboro Rodeo at events and/or parades within a 75 mile radius.


RULES AND REGULATIONS

1. Contestant must conduct herself in a proper lady-like manner and portray high moral standards in the community and on social media at all times.

2. Contestant must sign and submit the Waiver and Release of Liability Agreement, Medical Release, Conduct Agreement and completed Application form as well as the required 4x5 photograph by May 1, 2023.

3. Contestant must provide her own horse, with a current negative Coggins, for the Horsemanship Competition portion of the contest.

4. WARDROBE: Contestant must provide her own wardrobe which should reflect proper western attire or western style pants, a blouse or shirt with long sleeves – any color- with shirt tucked in. No jackets. Any color accessories (hat, boots, and belt) may be used. Gloves are optional, and chaps are not allowed.

5. Contestant hereby releases the right, title and claim of any photographs that may be taken by the WRC Rodeo Committee and/or WRC Rodeo Queen Committee for their use in promotion and publicity.

6. Ticket sales (including cash donations in lieu of) will account for FORTY PERCENT (40%) of the possible score. A minimum of $1500 in ticket sales and donations or sponsorships is set for contestants to qualify to win,

7. Contestant must realize that if she sells no tickets she is forfeiting her ability to win the title.

8. All unsold tickets and proceeds from ticket sales must be turned in no later than 8:00 P.M. on Thursday Night JUNE 29, 2023. Contestant/Guardian is responsible for all tickets and the proceeds from those that are assigned to her.

9. All contestants must be checked in no later than 6:00 pm on performance nights before the rodeo.

10. Contestant must ride in the Friday and Saturday night Grand Entry.

11. WRC Rodeo Royalty will be crowned Saturday night during the Rodeo performance. A Crown, and a buckle, and many other prizes will be awarded.

12. All decisions of the judges are final. Individual scores may be requested after the pageant.

13.  Rudeness toward the judges, other contestants, and/or pageant coordinators by contestants or contestants’ parents will not be tolerated!

14. The Whitesboro Riding Club members expect each Contestant to display the highest degree of sportsmanship during the pageant and following coronation.


The WRC Rodeo Queen Committee reserves the right to disqualify and remove any contestant from the contest for violation of the Rules and Regulations set forth herein. Any contestant that is disqualified will be required to immediately submit all monies collected (including both ticket sales and donations in lieu of).


COMPETITION CATEGORIES AND SCORING

Ticket Sales 40%

Horsemanship 40%

Interview:20%

Each category will be scored as follows:

FIRST PLACE: 5 points

SECOND PLACE: 4 points

THIRD PLACE: 3 points

FOURTH PLACE: 2 points

FIFTH PLACE: 1 point


For example:

Contestant “A” score:

TICKET SALES:  First Place: 5 points

HORSEMANSHIP:  Fourth Place: 2 points

INTERVIEW: Third Place: 3 points

Contestant A Score: 10 points


Contestant “B” scores:

TICKET SALES: Third Place: 3 points

HORSEMANSHIP: First Place: 5 points

INTERVIEW: Second Place: 4 points

Contestant B Score: 12 points


TIE BREAKING

In the event of a tie, the Contestant with the highest interview score will prevail.

JUDGING:

  • Horsemanship will be judged by (3) judges,

  • Horsemanship will be judged on a Two part pattern: a) Riding; and, b) Control


TICKET SALES:

  • Each Contestant will be issued $500.00 worth of tickets at the Check in/Orientation on April 15, 2023 long with a QR code for online ticket sales. Tickets issued with completed application turned in.

  • Each Contestant is responsible for ALL tickets in her possession as well as monies collected by her or anyone acting on her behalf whether for ticket sales or donations.

  • Re-stocking of tickets can be accomplished by the contestant contacting Amie Field and surrendering all monies collected for ticket sales and donations to that point.

  • Deadline for all ticket sales is at 8:00 pm on June 30 2023, all contestants must report to the Whitesboro Riding Club rodeo grounds to submit all monies collected as well as any remaining unsold tickets.


HORSEMANSHIP:

All contestants must be able to ride and their horsemanship will be judged on the following:

  • Control of mount and ability to deal with any situation which may arise;

  • Balance in the saddle

  • The understanding and skill of the Contestant will be judged, not the horse or the equipment;

  • Degree of difficulty (i.e., flying lead changes versus simple lead changes);

  •  Pattern (i.e. observance of the cones/markers)

  •  Showmanship (how a Contestant projects her personality to an audience from horseback) will be considered.

  • The Horsemanship Competition will be judged by three (3) qualified judges selected and approved by the Whitesboro Riding Club.

  • The horsemanship pattern will be provided to each Contestant no sooner than June 3rdt, 2023.

  • Each Contestant must provide her own horse. (No mount sharing will be allowed except in the case of an emergency such as an injury to a contestant’s horse).

  • Tack used during competition should be sufficient to control the horse. Split reins are preferred but optional. If a tie-down is necessary, use it.

  • ATTIRE: Any color jean, western style blouse or shirt with long sleeves, tucked in (showmanship attire is allowed). Chaps are not allowed. Any color accessories are allowed. (Hat, boots, and belt are required but gloves are optional).

  • Scores awarded by the Judge are final and non-debatable.

  • A blank scorecard will be posted on the day of the Competition in order to disclose the judging parameters.


INTERVIEW:

  • Immediately prior to the Horsemanship Competition, the Judge will conduct a private interview with each Contestant in order to ascertain that Contestant’s knowledge of areas such as horsemanship, horse care (nutrition, anatomy and diseases).

  • Questions presented by the Judge will be at the discretion of the Judge but will be in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the WRC Rodeo Queen Committee.

  • This interview will count for 20% of Competition score and Contestants will be scored on the following: a) appearance, b) attitude c) personality, and d) equine, rodeo knowledge with emphasis on grammar and speaking ability.

  •  Contestant will present herself, in her Competition attire, in a timely and professional manner to the Judges.
